Frequently Asked Questions:
- Why private lessons?
This enables the student to have a far superior atmosphere of learning. It enables the student to learn at their own pace and instructors can work on individual weaknesses and strengths. Private lessons offer a great opportunity for in-school band and orchestra students to enhance their technique and progress at a much faster pace – without the intimation of a large group setting.
- Will students perform?
Yes – There will be two music recitals throughout the season.
- Will students participate in competitions?
The instructor will select intermediate to advanced students to participate in various yearly competitions – at Music Educator’s discretion.
- Where will the lessons be conducted?
All music and voice lessons will be conducted in private music rooms with viewing windows at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts.
- What age should my child start music lessons?
– Piano – Age 6 & up (age 5 by interview)
This class involves learning all of the fundamentals of playing the piano and reading music.
– Acoustic Guitar – Ages 8 & up
This class involves learning all the fundamentals of playing the guitar – basic techniques of position, fingering, chords and reading music. This class is also offered in small group settings of 6 students.
– Classical Guitar – Ages 11 & up
This class involves learning the advanced concepts of finger style guitar and reading music.
–Introduction to Voice – Ages 6, 7 & 8
This class involves instruction in building foundations that last and developing essential skills for growing voices.
– Voice – Ages 9 and up
This class involves instruction in building a foundation, developing proper singing techniques and ensuring the proper use of the voice (posture, breathing, warm-ups, tone, diction, rhythm, etc.)
–Advanced Voice Instruction – Ages 13 & up
for the serious voice student – beginner to advanced
– Strings – Ages 4 & up
Instruments: All Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Musical Styles: Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, Blue Grass/Fiddle
String Method: Traditional Violin method (Suzuki method is not used)
Levels:
- Beginner Level – This class involves learning all the fundamentals of playing a string instrument – basic techniques of position, fingering, note reading, rhythmic reading, and ear training.
- Intermediate Level – This class involves learning technical aspects of string playing – finger positions and shifting, vibrato, rhythmic reading, scales and arpeggios (1octave), ear training,shifting, bow styles, and Music Theory.
- Advanced Level – This class explores more advance technical skills and nuances of string playing – shifting (beyond third position), vibrato, rhythmic and melodic improv, scales and arpeggios (2octaves and above), ear training, artistic expression, musical styles & genres, bow styles, and advance Music Theory and History.
–Woodwinds – Ages 10 & up – Beginning to Advanced Levels
Instruments: Flute, Clarinet & Saxophone
Musical Styles: Classical, Jazz, Contemporary
Policies & Fees:
Music Students are guaranteed (4) 1/2 hour lessons for $95.00. If music student calls in to miss a class within a 24 hour period then it is the music educator’s discretion to make-up the class. Music Recital Fees must be paid in advance for student to perform in annual music productions.
