Deelana Styron

GAD Associate Director / Early Childhood Director

Ms. Styron has been involved in the performing arts for the past 25 years. Her professional credits include performing with the professional jazz company, Souls of the Feet, under the direction of Wade Smith. As a former children’s counselor and director of many early childhood dance programs, Ms. Styron has achieved a quality of instruction that has afforded her the opportunity of co developing and overseeing all aspects of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts early childhood program, as well as implementing outreach programs in the community. Ms. Styron has developed the Early Childhood Program of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts as one of the largest and  most innovative programs in Georgia. Ms. Styron has assisted in creating age appropriate classes intertwined with introducing the technical aspects of dance – in a fun and positive atomosphere.
Ms, Styron believes in presenting the joy of dance with structure and encouragement to each beginning level dancer from age 3-6 – to foster their joy of movement and to recognize their talents and gifts. Ms. Styron is the Early Childhood Program Director and Associate Director of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts.

Wade Smith

Contemporary Director/GDT Board Member

Mr. Smith, a Georgia Governor’s Honors Program alumnus, continued his studies at Birmingham Southern College as a dance major and later joined Atlanta Jazz Theatre under the direction of Dan Youmans. He has studied with and performed the works of such renowned choreographers as Frank Hatchett, Kenneth Green, Michele Assaff, Ronnie DeMarco, Patricia Dickinson and Bick Goss. He has choreographed for dance competitions, fashion shows for major retailers and ESPN. Mr. Smith has been a featured performer for WSB’s Salute to America and Georgia Dance Theatre. He was the co-founder and former Artistic Director of the professional jazz company, Souls of the Feet. Mr. Smith has led the growth of the contemporary program at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts to be one of the largest and most diverse of Georgia.  He is known for defining technique in the contemporary style with elements of extraordinary creativity. He has implemented these elements to create a versatile and well-rounded dancer for the professional world of dance.
In addition to his achievements in dance, Mr. Smith has worked with the mentally and physically challenged for 22 years. Mr. Smith is on the Board of Directors of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Melony Tribble

Ballet Mistress/GDT Board Member

Ms. Tribble received her dance training from Thalia Mara at the Jackson Ballet School in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, she returned to Jackson and joined Ballet Mississippi under the direction of Alan Woodard. Ms. Tribble furthered her studies as a teacher and performer by completing two Royal Academy of Dance exams and attending the International Ballet Competition Summer Sessions studying with such noted teachers as Laura Alonso, Robert Barnett, and Tatiana Tchernova. Ms. Tribble has performed lead roles in such noted ballets as Les Sylphide, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, La Bayadere and Swan Lake. Ms. Tribble is a former professional company member of Georgia Dance Theatre and a current member of the board of directors of Georgia Dance Theatre. Ms. Tribble is the Ballet Mistress for Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts.

Mary Donaldson

Ballet Mistress/GDT Board Member

Ms. Donaldson received her training from Ballet Met, North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Burklyn Ballet of Vermont. Her professional experience includes performing with Ballet Met, Cincinnati Ballet, Louisville Ballet, Cincinnati Opera Ballet and Georgia Dance Theatre. Ms. Donaldson has served on the faculty of the Cincinnati School for Creative and Performing Arts and Northern Kentucky University Department of Theatre and Dance. Ms. Donaldson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Cincinnati. Ms. Donaldson is a former member of the professional company Georgia Dance Theatre and current Ballet Mistress of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts. Ms. Donaldson also serves as a member of the board of directors of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Julie Strauch

Administrative Director/GDT Board Member

Ms. Strauch, a Georgia Dance Theatre alumni, has been involved in the performing arts for the past 25 years with training and performing experience in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and theater. Ms. Strauch, the first recipient of the Hammett Dance Scholarship, has trained at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts for the past 18 years. She has received additional training from the Atlanta Ballet and South Carolina Dance Conservatory.
Ms. Strauch danced the principal role of Wendy in Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts production of Peter Pan. She has also performed principal roles in Georgia Dance Theatre’s Nutcracker, In the Spirit of Dance Contemporary Works and Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts production of Giselle.
Ms. Strauch as choreographed for various contemporary works for Georgia Dance Theatre’s In the Spirit of Dance.
Under scholarship with Georgia Dance Theatre, Ms. Strauch has performed with the company for nine seasons and she was a contracted member of Georgia Dance Theatre professional company for four seasons.
Currently, Ms. Strauch organizes all administrative aspects of productions for Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts and the non-profit company, Georgia Dance Theatre.  In addition, Ms. Strauch is the Treasurer and a board member for Georgia Dance Theatre.

Brianne Wesolowski

Classical Ballet Educator/Contemporary Educator
Brianne Wesolowski trained with the Georgia Academy of Dance and the Performing Arts for the past 20 years and under scholarship with Georgia Dance Theatre for the past fourteen seasons.
Ms. Wesolowski received additional training from many notable ballet schools including the Houston Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre, the Burklyn Ballet Theatre on scholarship and the Milwaukee Ballet on scholarship.  Following her summer with the Milwaukee Ballet, Brianne received an invitation to join Milwaukee Ballet II under the direction of Michael Pink.  Brianne joined Georgia Dance Theatre professional company in  2005 and danced under professional contract for five  seasons.
Ms. Wesolowski’s performing credits include the principal role of Black Swan in Swan Lake, Sugar Plum and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the principal role in Melony Tribble’s Swallowed Up, the lead in Nadia Thompson’s Grande Terentella, Romantic Girl in Burklyn Ballet Theatre’s Graduation Ball, Queen of the Dryads in Don Quixote, and the principal role in Les Sylphides. Ms. Wesolowski has also performed soloist roles in La Bayedere, Symphony in D, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, Le Corsair, Peter Pan, La Fille Ma Gardee, Coppelia and several contemporary works showcased
in Georgia Dance Theatre’s In the Spirit of Dance series.
Ms. Wesolowski has taught several levels of classical ballet, pointe and hip hop at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts and continues to be a guest teacher.
Ms. Wesolowski graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in World History and a BA in Religious Studies from Georgia State University in May 2010 under full academic scholarship.  She is currently working on a Masters of Theological Studies at Emory University.

Shari Gee

Ballroom Educator/GDT Board Member
Ms. Gee’s professional performing credits include Opryland USA, Six Flags Over Georgia, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and countless industrial shows. Ms. Gee’s vivacious and innovative choreography expands from Six Flags shows, Rich’s Lighting of the Great Tree, Lenox Mall Christmas Fantasy, Lake Lanier Islands to numerous commercial venues. Her choreography can also be seen on the theater stage in productions such as Oklahoma, Jekyll & Hyde, 1940′s Radio Hour and many others. Ms. Gee is honored to have choreographed for fundraising events for Christian City and Chris Homes – organizations dedicated to the well-being of children.
Ms. Gee is a member of the Board of Directors of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Megan Johnson

Early Childhood & Classical Ballet Educator
Megan Johnson is in her 2nd season as a professional company member of Georgia Dance Theatre. She has performed professionally with the 14th Street Playhouse, Impact Dance of Atlanta, and the Woodland Performing Arts Center. Additional professional credits include the Will Rogers Follies, Spellbound, Copacabana and Pippin with various professional theater companies. She received full scholarships to Belhaven College and North Atlanta School of the Arts. She received additional training with Ballet Magnificate Trainee Program and Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts. In 2011, Ms. Johnson performed the lead role of Maria in Sherri Davis’ original ballet of  West Side Story. She is a ballet, contemporary and early childhood educator for GAD & the Performing Arts.

Mary Grace Phillips

Classical Ballet & Contemporary Educator
Ms. Phillips is a graduate of Belhaven College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. While studying, she performed original and classical works with the Belhaven Dance Ensemble and Belhaven Theatre Department. She has recently continued her training in summer intensives at the Richmond Ballet and Atlanta Ballet. Ms. Phillips has also performed, choreographed and taught workshops for Shachah Touring Company in Shizouka, Japan. Ms. Phillips has studied with the Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts for 16 years and a member of Georgia Dance Theatre for 10 seasons. She has performed Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Kitri in Don Quixote and Clara in Georgia Dance Theatre’s production of the Nutcracker. Ms. Phillips is a professional company member of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Christen Edwards

Classical Ballet Educator
Ms. Edwards trained with Central Pennsylvaia Youth Ballet and Boston Ballet and the Southwest Virginia Ballet. She has performed professionally with Ballet North Performance Company, City Dance Ensemble of Atlanta and North Carolina Dance Theatre. Ms. Edwards has performed soloists and principal roles in The Nutcracker, Carmen, Giselle, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. She will be graduating this year with a degree in Communications and Public Relations from Georgia State University. Ms. Edwards is a professional company member of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Jan Tardie

Classical Ballet & Early Childhood Educator
Ms. Tardie received her dance training in North Carolina at Baylin Studios. She continued to dance while attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and later at Georgia State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Childhood Education. Ms. Tardie has won several choreography awards as a coach for middle school dance students. She has been cast coordinator, performer and instructor for musical presentations of In the Fullness of Time and They Call Him Messiah produced by Bridgeover Ministries. Currently Ms. Tardie directs and performs with the Atlanta City Church’s dance ministry.

Kym Bushmire

Contemporary & Early Childhood Educator/GDT Board Member
Ms. Bushmire, a Georgia Dance Theatre alumni, received her dance training from the Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts, Kris Cangelosi of Cangelosi Dance Project, Georgia State University and LaGrange School of Ballet. Ms. Bushmire has been a guest choreographer for Georgia Dance Theatre’s production of In the Spirit of Dance, 42nd Street Sinfonicron Light Opera Company and the College of William and Mary. Ms. Bushmire has been a guest performer with the Kris Cangelosi Dance Project, the Movement Force of Georgia State University and the Centennial Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies of 1996. Ms. Bushmire is a member of Georgia Dance Theatre Board of Directors.

Jenny Reynolds

Contemporary & Early Childhood Educator
Ms. Reynolds has trained at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts for the past 21 years. She has received additional training from American Ballet Theatre, Atlanta Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Burklyn Ballet Theatre and The Lines Ballet of California. She has received apprenticeships with Alvin Ailey American Dance Center of New York and Lines Ballet of California. She has been a guest performer with Burklyn Ballet Theatre as the company toured Edinburg, Scotland and a member of the professional touring company of Angela Whitehill’s Paradise Ballet Theatre. Ms. Reynolds has danced soloist and principal roles as a Georgia Dance Theatre company member. These roles include Snow Queen in Georgia Dance Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker Ballet. In 2010, Ms. Reynolds performed the lead role of Swanilda in Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts production of Coppelia. Ms. Reynolds is a former member of Georgia Dance Theatre Pre-Professional Company and Professional Company. Ms. Reynolds is a dance educator of all dance disciplines at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts.

Paulo Manso De Sousa

Classical Ballet Educator
Paulo Manso de Sousa joined the Oakland Ballet Company at the age of 15 and continued dancing professionally with such elite companies as The Eliot Feld Ballet, Connecticut Ballet and Miami City Ballet under the director of Edward Villella. He has worked with the Finnish National Ballet, Ayumi Ballet of Japan and was Artistic Director of Compamia de Danca de Aveiro in Portugal. Paulo Manso de Sousa has directed his own dance company MAN-SO-DANCE, directed and choreographed for Subtropics Dance Festival, teh Young Artist Series at Florida International University and the South Beach DIFFA Gala at the Jackie Gleason Theater.
As a choreographer, he has collaborated with flutist Nestor Torres for Juego Del Arte, Teatro Avante, Artz-in-the-Hood, Alaska Dance Theater, Sangre De Cristo Civic Ballet, Miami Hispanic Ballet, New World School of the Arts, Maximum Dance Company, LAMBDA Showcase, and the Discovery Channel. Paulo was commissioned to create the image of First Night at the Colony Theater 2000, and a site-specific work on Lincoln Road 2001. Paulo created a finale for the Red Cross Dance for Life Gala at the Gussman Theater in 2001-2003 and recently for the Dia Mundial da Danca for the Auditorio Municipal Eunice Munoz, and Hansel & Gretel for the Voorhees Ballet Theatre. Paulo is currently teaching the pre-professional & professional company classes at the Atlanta Ballet.

KATIE WATSON

Contemporary Educator
Ms. Watson moved to Atlanta from Tampa, Florida in 1998 to further pursue her jazz career, having been invited by John Mattson to join his professional jazz company, The Phoenix Project. Soon afterwards she began teaching at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts and other studios throughout the Atlanta area. In 1999 she was awarded a full scholarship by Suzi Taylor at Steps on Broadway. She has performed with several artists including: RJay Helton, recently featured on Fox’s American Idol, newly signed Dreamworks trio Da Rascals, and Heather Mitchell, also known as Aslyn. Ms. Jeanes-Watson has performed in industrials for Warner Brothers, Reebok and Compaq Computers. She was a member of Culture Shock Atlanta, a non-profit professional hip-hop company that performs extensively throughout the Atlanta area at events such as the Sprite Liquid Mix Tour, Janet Jackson’s All for You Tour concert promotion with 95.5 The Beat, as well as other promotional events and community outreach projects. She has provided choreography and/or performance consulting for various artists such as Grammy-award winner Rebecca St. James, new Sparrow recording artist Jadyn Maria, Daniel Langston, and Curb/ASAP Records’ S.O.N.Z. She has also appeared in Whitney Houston’s videos, Turner South’s B Street Live and Atlanta’s WGNX-TV 46′s Fourth of July Special sponsored by CBS and Peach 94. Ms. Katie Jeanes-Watson recently returned from Las Vegas where she performed with Culture Shock of Vegas.

Nichole Martin

Contemporary Educator

Nichole Martin (formerly O’Brien) has trained with Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts for the past 19 years and under scholarship with Georgia Theatre for 18 seasons.  She has received additional training from the Rock School of the Pennsylvania Ballet with an invitation to stay for school year program, the American Ballet Theatre, the Montgomery Ballet on full scholarship, the South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory, and the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education on full scholarship.  Nichole joined Georgia Dance Theatre Professional Company in 2002 and danced under professional contract for nine seasons.
Mrs. Martin has performed principal roles such as Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in Georgia Dance Theatre’s The Nutcracker Ballet, Mercedes in Don Quixote, the principal role in American Ballet Theatre’s Master of the Puppets by Larry Pech, Delilah in Melony Tribble’s Samson and Delilah, the principal role in Les Sylphides, and in 2008, the lead role of Constance in Sherri Davis’ original ballet, The Three Musketeers. Mrs. Martin has also performed soloist roles in Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Esmeralda, Don Quixote, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo & Juliet, Peter Pan, Coppelia, and contemporary works throughout the nation.
Mrs. Martin’s training led to many professional opportunities including founding and directing the Thunder Girls Dance Team of the Southern Crescent Lighting, coaching the Junior Varsity Chiefettes Dance Team of McIntosh High School, choreographing music videos throughout the southeast, and performing in contemporary works showcased throughout the nation.  In 2009 & 2010, she directed and choreographed the national tour for national recording artist, Lindee Link, and in 2007 & 2009 traveled to Austin, Texas to be a mentor for the American Ballet Theatre
Summer Intensive.  Mrs. Martin holds a degree from Emory University with a double major in political science and psychology with a minor in marketing and advertising.  She is currently the CEO & Founder of On Pointe Media Group, LLC. – a full service marketing, media, and management company – and a contemporary educator for GAD & the Performing Arts.

HAYLEY STONE

Classical Ballet & Early Childhood Educator
Ms. Stone is a graduate of the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts where she received training from such notable dance educators as Sharon Dante, Kevin Martin, Eleanor D’Antuono, Alexei Tchernichov, Victoria Mazzarelli, and Joan Kunsch. Ms. Stone also established herself as a rehearsal assistant and dance educator at the Nutmeg Conservatory of the Arts.
Ms. Stone has received additional training with the North Carolina School of the Arts, San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Met, The Rock School of Pennsylvania and the Russian Ballet in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Ms. Stone was a professional company member of the Atlanta Festival Ballet for five seasons and held the position as Classical Ballet Educator and Summer Intensive Coordinator for the school. She has performed such lead roles Sugar Plum, Dew Drop and Arabian of the Nutcracker and Tiger Lilly of Peter Pan. Ms. Stone will be performing the lead role of Giselle in Georgia Academy of Dance’s production of Giselle to be presenting in June of 2012. Ms. Stone is a current member of the Professional Company of Georgia Dance Theatre.

Amy Hamilton

Early Childhood, Ballet & Contemporary Educator
Ms. Hamilton received her dance training from Gwinnett Ballet Theatre, Buford School of Ballet, and Brimingham- Southern College. She has received invitations to study under scholsrship with Point Park University, Nashville Ballet, Atlanta Festival Ballet, Mercyhurst Colleege, Goshen College and Birmingham Southern College. She has received gold medal status  and a national overall distinction award in the American Academy of Ballet Performance at the Alvin Ailey Theatre in New York.  Ms. Hamilton is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Communications Disorders.

JENNIFER HILLMAN

Early Childhood Educator
Ms. Hillman received her dance training with the Baldwin Arts and Academic Magnet in Montgomery and under full scholarship to the Montgomery Ballet under the direction of Don Steffy and Marylou Hume. She has also been trained by such dance mentors as Emily Caruso and Alabama Dance Theatre principal dancer Valerie Lagrone.
As a dancer, Ms, Hillman has performed principal roles in various contemporary works and has performed the roles of Mirliton and Arabian in The Nutcracker Ballet. Ms. Hillman’s professional credits include performing with the Southeastern Ballet Company as a dancer and with Fyre the Company as a dancer and a featured singer/songwriter.
Ms. Hillman is an accomplished singer and songwriter and is currently working on completing her 2nd cd produced by David Leonard. Ms. Hillman has been a dance educator for the past 11 years with emphasis in Early Childhood programs.

Music Educators

Eric Clay

Piano, Acoustic, Classical & Electric Guitar
Eric Clay has twenty years experience as a professional musician and music educator. Several of his former students are music teachers and industry professionals. In addition, Mr. Clay is also a mentor to beginning music educators. His instruction is well rounded with emphasis on performance skills and music theory. Mr. Clay is currently studying jazz and holiday music and maintains a professional music studio in his home. Mr. Clay also enjoys years of experience as an accompanist for church and school functions. Mr. Clay’s students will have the opportunity to participate in recitals and competitions. Mr. Clay offers instruction in songwriting and composition to any students interested in enhancing their music education. Mr. Clay is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, (Georgia Music Teachers Association), National Association ofr Music Education, and the Coweta Fayette Music Teachers Association. Mr. Clay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and is a certified Elementary School Educator.

Kristi Hartsell

Voice – all levels
Kristi Hartsell  brings a fresh new look to the world of vocal music. She is currently pursuring her Bachelors of Arts degree in Music with concentrations in voice and education at Clayton State University. Ms. Hartsell is  currently the  Music Director of First Baptist Church of Riverdale. She leads a hymn choir, gospel choir, and contemporary praise team while working closely with young children in Children’s Choir. Ms. Hartsell enjoys all genres of music and has experience working professionally in many venues.  Ms. Hartsell is a professionally trained singer and teacher, having studied classical singing and belting technique under Dr. Shaun Amos and Dr. Christina Howell.  Ms. Hartsell’s approach to lessons includes work on breath management, tone quality, performance techniques including stage presence, body posture, music reading ability, text painting, and improvisation if applicable. Ms. Hartsell has experience working with both children and adults in many settings including summer camps, church musicals, choir settings, and private voice lessons.

John Bennett – Piano

John Bennett is an accomplished pianist, recording artist, producer and music educator. He is a recipient of multiple honors and awards including the Spivey Hall Scholarship.
He demonstrates an incredible ear and has received all-state recognition for sight ready ability. He brings teaching experience with children ages 4-17 and emphasizes his performances skills into the piano lessons.
John is currently pursuring a Music degree at Clayton State University and was chosen as the pianist for Clayton State University’s Commencement Ceremony in Fall 2010. He is a sought after performer for university functions, recitals and theatre productions in the Atlanta area.
WENDY MCCABE – Woodwinds (Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute)

Wendy McCabe comes to the Music program of Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts with over thirty years of experience as a professional musician and music educator. Ms. McCabe has experience with a variety of music styles including classical, jazz, Broadway, marches, new age music, and more. Her professional experience includes playing for Broadway, ensemble and community groups, private college concerts, weddings, special events, and professional theater productions across the world in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, and even Germany.
In addition to her extensive career as a professional musician, Ms. McCabe has been teaching music education to students of all ages for 25 years in a variety of states and countries including Georgia, South Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Delaware, Alaska, and Europe. Currently, Ms. McCabe teaches at Griffin Christian Academy, Gordon College, East Coweta Middle School, and The Hudson School as a part-time educator and substitute teacher.
Ms. McCabe is also currently working with the Atlanta Lyric Theater, Legacy Theater, and is President of the Peachtree Wind Ensemble. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Education from New Jersey University with a focus on the clarinet and saxophone.
